Multichannel Urodynamic Evaluation
What is a multichannel urodynamic evaluation?
A multichannel urodynamic evaluation, or urodynamic test, is an office procedure that takes about 10 minutes to perform. During the procedure, a tiny catheter is inserted in the bladder and rectum to measure pressures as the bladder is slowly filled with water.
Why is this procedure done?
We can obtain information on how the bladder is functioning during both bladder filling and emptying. We also obtain information on what happens to the bladder during coughing and straining maneuvers. Many conditions can be diagnosed with the results of this procedure, including urinary incontinence and frequent urination. Patients are asked to arrive to the appointment with a full bladder.
Dr. Shelby Morrisroe may recommend urodynamic testing for the following symptoms:
- urine leakage
- frequent urination
- urgent urination
- problems starting a urine stream
- problems emptying the bladder completely
- neurologic conditions effecting the bladder
